For a while, I’ve struggled mentally. I have a very supportive family but opening up/being vulnerable has always been hard. I hate for them to see me down. Should I use the crisis line? I just thought it’d be wrong if im not actively planning anything

there's not really anything "wrong" with using the crisis line if you aren't planning to do anything, but there isn't really much they will do, and they likely won't be the help you need

School has been my main stressor along with other things. But late at night, it gets so much more difficult. All I do is think and falling to sleep is difficult. So I’m constantly thinking negative thoughts about myself & my life. I just didn’t know if using such a hotline would be appropriate. Though I do struggle with not so good thoughts. I’m just not sure!

I would suggest seeing a counselor especially if you’re not in immediate danger. Only don’t let a self imposed stigma on using a resource deter you from calling if that’s something you think will help you right now.
