I use them a lot when I’m not using an emoji, because I write rather formally and can come off as rude or aggressive when I’m just existing neutrally. Though really it depends on the situation and who I’m speaking to. A lot of the time I’ll write out the full tone indicator in parenthesis rather than the abbreviation with the slash

I have a really hard time interpreting tone from text so I greatly appreciate them even if I do admit they can look a little silly sometimes
