I think its morally unfair to select an embryo that you know will have a lower QOL than the average person but we cross into eugenics in saying no one should be allowed a deaf embryo. Hearing parents in most cases are in fully hearing families and do not know or understand deaf life to be allowed to choose a deaf embryo but I think if theres atleast one deaf parent it shouldnt matter even if I personally morally disagree with that choice

If there were a compelling reason to allow it- sure- but I don’t think there is, even for deaf parents. Deaf parents with hearing kids are still able to teach their children how to communicate

No but not out if moral obligation simply because its wrong to release information about donors and im pretty sure genetically deaf people arent allowed to donate

What’s the difference between selecting a deaf embryo and piercing the baby’s eardrums at birth? You’d never be able to do the second option so why would you the first? Should amputee parents be allowed to chop off their child’s leg? How could anyone without mental illness want their child to be worse off just to be similar to them

+ I think OP is talking about looking at the embryos that formed and selecting which ones to use based on whether or not the embryo itself displays deaf genes
