I feel like they wouldn’t ever mandate which four days it is, even if they mandated a max of 4, in tons of industries it would be better to have different people working on different days

Honestly I’d rather have 5 days 30 hrs a week instead of 4 days 40 hours

I like how basically everyone agrees the Friday is an honorary weekend day already so it should graduate to full weekend

And you wonder why we’re breaking our backs to support European economies

Yeah but those who work harder get more generally. Also everyone is able to do what they want. We need less mandates and restrictions. Open markets and freedom to choose your own path is the best option. You want four days. . . Then you should do that. Period

the 4-day work week, as implemented in other countries, has not meant an increase in hours per day! i don’t remember which countries have done it off the top of my head (def like northern european countries tho) but they’ve done it so a full work week is closer to 32 hours and it still had a positive impact on productivity, which i think is really interesting

i was gonna say something like this. i picked based on which 4 days i would like to work, but i know that's not possible if we want the entire economy to function

That’s great, but don’t be surprised that when it happens here, it will lead to a decrease in salaries, and as such people will have to pick up part time work to supplement income, thus making work less hours a week pointless

We don’t drop salaries or wages in this country. The productivity loss would be too high. Prices would get go up

Either way you get the same result, which is the point. People would have to pick up secondary jobs to deal with the consequences of moving to a 32 hour work week

But less restrictions is what lets megacorps poison your neighborhood’s water supply and fuck the earth even harder

That’s what the government should be focused on. To work for us not against us

Yes, and working for us and protecting us involves restrictions. Capitalism rewards cruelty for the sake of efficiency and so that’s what you’ll get with a free market and no restriction. Theres an illusion that free markets give you more choice and freedom but it’s usually the opposite—not many can afford to work only 4 days a week even if they would like to, so that’s not a real “choice”.

I think that’s a good way to sum it up. The only correction I’d make is that capitalism rewards efficiency regardless of cruelty, not the other way around

Yes I agree. I meant more that capitalism rewards cruelty WHEN it’s for the sake of efficiency. It also rewards kindness that contributes to efficiency but it’s rare that it works out that way.

It’s not rare it’s just expected so we don’t notice it
