Would it be the “let the kid fall and scrape their knee” parenting style where we allow children to injure themselves in order to teach a lesson? IF God is real then it has to be on a much grander scale than what we have here, right? Or, are you saying the evil in this world is too great for that to be any sort of valid explanation? I’m only playing devils advocate. I’m not picking a side, just seeing if you can further define yours.
I think believing humans were gods sole children and its focus would be arrogant, if there was a god who created everything we’d be a forgotten experiment in a Petri dish. Religion was created as a way to cope with cruel realities, a social binding agent, and a tool to give meaning for those who can’t find it on their own
So you’re not arguing against a higher power per se, but the fact that any higher power would have any interest in us other than a fleeting moment after creation. IF there is a higher power of some sort that is. It’s level of being would be so far beyond what we could even describe as the relationship between humans and an ant. There’s a total lack of consideration.
I’m saying that the afterlife is a concept our brains invented to comfort ourselves from the reality that it will be absolute nothingness after we die, just like it was before we were born. We didn’t exist for 14 billion years. I truly believe that we as individuals have this one chance of life, and then we die forever. No life after death, no after life
So, first, I've thought about this a lot over the years. But, "we didn't exist for 14 billion years." True, you, the person writing this, didn't. I didn't. But how can you definitively say we don't didn't in any other forms? Memories don't carry with you after you die, after all, so you'd be a blank slate each time. A lil thought experiment.
