Is it safer to lock your bedroom door at night or leave it unlocked? My mom doesn’t want me to lock it in case there’s some emergency and I need help, but I feel safer with it locked in case someone breaks in (idaho murders heavy on my mind)

Unlocked is safer. You are much more likely to have a medical emergency than experience a break in. In a medical emergency every second counts. Imagine how awful it would be if you could hear your child having a medical emergency but you cant get in their room because their door is locked.

Fires and medical issues are far more likely than someone breaking in to kill you. Leave it closed but unlocked.

If someone breaks into your house, they either will try not to wake you up and never attempt to get in your room, or they definitely will get into your room and one more lock will do nothing. Lock your door if you want privacy from people who could otherwise access you, but if someone dangerous is already separated from you by at least one lock, adding another doesn’t help.

If you lock doors and windows at night (ones leading inside), you’re going to be just as safe as if you had locked your room door. If someone can get past that, you have bigger fish to fry in terms of security.

Do you not have a key where your mom could easily access it?

Also, if an intruder can get past the locked door to inside your house, who's to say they cant get into the locked door to your room?

You’re statistically more likely to have the gun used against you than to have it save you

Someone worried about having someone break in to kill them should probably just be defenseless, you’re right.
