If I ever become a parent, my child will participate in sports. When they get to high school I will not FORCE them- but until then I would like to see them participate. Being in sports allows for a very specific social development that is key to brain function and integrating into society as a teen and adult. Not only that- but being in sports ages 6-14 is really good for establishing good lifelong cardiovascular, emotional/mental, and respiratory health

You can probably infer my opinion based on the way I wrote the original question lol. But I did sports for two years in high school and I can honestly say I never liked it. But, I would like my kids to not be like me. It’s good if they can find exercise they enjoy and make friends that way, which are both things I never did. However, I do think that too much moral education rests on sports nowadays. Sports alone aren’t enough to develop a moral compass

I do think that there are multiple elements of care besides sports that build a child’s moral and character (nurture, parental bond/marriage status, religion, financial stability, education quality & access, etc.). However, I do think it’s better to do sports than to not do them ever. Again- I want my child to grow up healthy and be physically active in the age of technology. The easiest way to promote this is through sports.
