I would prefer us to be equal however if he makes more money than I do I wouldn’t complain unless he tries to use that as a point of superiority

I know this is a sensitive topic. I’m just trying to gauge what people think I promise

i find that if they’re of lower financial or social standing that they can’t help but have a chip on their shoulder about it which can get exhausting to constantly manage. my ex boyfriend yelled at me because i said i didn’t like mcdonald’s because it was unhealthy and he was saying that it was the only food option he had as a kid because it was cheap and that i will never understand what that’s like which is probably true

Social standing is such a weird concept for people to care about. What does that even mean in today’s society?

higher would make me jealous, lower is ok only if i’m crazy rich but if i’m not i’m not getting dragged down

My thing is that I want *at least* equal- if he’s a kind, attractive guy, we’re compatible, & otherwise equal financially / socially, that’s great. But I’d happily take a man who makes more / has higher social standing as well

As a woman who comes from a more fortunate background, it’s been my council to date men of my financial status or greater. I dated a man for 3 years that did not make as much as me and didn’t come from a background like mine and it really made him insecure. He made up for his insecurities through verbal aggression and social dominance. Since then, I have made the decision to not date men that need to compensate for the lack of masculinity they feel against me in finances/career.

I make more than my bf currently but I would certainly prefer for him to get a higher-paying job eventually for our future, especially if we have kids

same! i’m going to be a teacher and i know i’ll be paid dirt so i’d like my partner to make more than me because i won’t be making much and zero + zero is still zero… but i definitely want to be higher social standing because of the same reasons

Wouldn’t that be something like “social ability”? “Social standing” implies a position within a hierarchy, like caste, nobility, or being a group leader of some sort.

Again, isn’t that just social ability? Unless you mean that someone’s literal number of friends dictates their social standing, I just don’t quite understand what you mean.
