ok maybe this is stupid but i had to pay a about $2000 to fix something on my car and now im in $2000 credit card debt (i’ve always been smart with my cc so my score is 700) there’s no way i can pay that off in a month how should i even go about paying

i qualify for a credit limit raise so i was thinking of doing that for to stay below (or get closer to) 15% usage but i have no idea what to do

Usage is transitory, so once you have it paid off credit goes right back up. Hard pull on increasing your credit limit won’t be though and you’ll likely take a hit for the next 6-12 months. Decide if now is the time to expand your credit. Credit cards were built to help you carry a balance month to month and only get a little fucked, so pay it down quickly, but know it did its job in an emergency!

i actually didn’t know that about the usage!! i’ve decided to not increase my limit just yet and see how much any money from christmas or working more over my break does. i guess we shall see

Yep, I’m super lazy and churn most of my monthly expenses and bills through my main bank card for points. Some months is definitely over 10% and it chews a couple points off my score.
