I need advice on getting a job, I’m a recent grad with a B.B.A in Finance and only retail experience.. I’ve applied to over 300 jobs the past two weeks with only 1 prescreen interview. Is this normal? And is cold emailing effective?

Cole emailing is beyond a waste of time. You need to network. Join your colleges Rotaract club or your local Rotary club. Meet some people with community influence. You should have 2/3 different resumes focused on jobs you want like sales training or data analytics or whatever you’re looking at. Not a generic resume.

Genuine question? For a degree in finance why no industry internships or work experience before graduation?

Yes, that’s fairly normal, early applications often get low response rates. Focus on tailoring your resume and cover letter for each role, leverage LinkedIn for networking, and yes, thoughtful cold emailing can be effective if you target the right people and keep it concise.

I graduated with a BBA finance. The only job I could get was in public accounting during tax season.

Start working towards certifications or a masters while you job hunt. Entry level jobs in any industry are dead, I’m sure you’ve seen all of the positions that value a series 7 or CFA’s

Are you fluent in R? Look into getting an OpenAI certification

I have a tax level 1 certification with Inuit Academy and I’m currently working on the FMVA certification with CFI. I’m also pursuing the CFA designation…

I’ve been applying for internships the past two years, I’ve made it to final interview rounds with 2 large banks in my region but then nothing… I’m also involved with the economics and finance clubs on campus as an officer, which I thought would help… I’ve also emailed local companies for shadowing and internship positions, and nothing… I feel like it just comes down to networking and luck at this point…
