Rn I’m (F) in college and planning on becoming a doctor or PA. However, my other goal is to be a mom and ideally I want to be a SAHM while my children are young. Do you think it’s worth it to go through medical school just to lose years of work?

Yes. Doctors routinely practice well into their 60s/70s and some don’t even get med degrees until well into their 30s or later. You’ve got time to do both. Of course it won’t be easy and you’d have to stay on top of medical advancements and certifications and such, but it’s okay to be passionate about multiple things. Talk to some mom-doctors, see how they handled it.

Clinicians or mainly PC have the best life:work ratio, easy to talk to your current providers or role models about how they did it

Yes! My mom did exactly that, and it was hard at first when my sister and I were little and she had to be at work all day and so did my dad, but then she quit to be a SAHM. She has gone through a few career paths just for fun since then, like medical journalism, but she keeps up with her boards so she is able to go back to practicing at any time! And the knowledge will forever is useful. (Also, she went into pediatrics, so she knew exactly what to do anytime one of us was sick)
