Please don’t let him be an inside and outside cat! It’s not safe for the cat, and it’s not safe for the local wildlife. He could get any number of infectious diseases or be hit by a car or killed by an animal. Domestic cats are really damaging to native wildlife populations as well.

as someone who grew up with indoor/outdoor cats please don't. it's not worth all the scares you're going to have through the years, one of my cats when he was about thirteen went missing for a whole week thankfully he returned but it was obvious he got locked in somewhere. he also got in fights all the time so we had to bring him to the vet a bunch for infections for my other cat everytime a bad storm came in it was awful bc she refused to come inside. plus she loved bringing dead animals in

Please please please don’t have him go outside off leash, it’s super risky for him and your local wildlife. You can leash train him so he can go outside and explore in a safe way, he’ll live a safer life while still getting the benefits of being outside!

If he’s gonna be an indoor outdoor cat I recommend getting a collar that can have an air tag so u can track him if needed

I had an indoor outdoor cat because his owner died and he was kinda feral for a few years. He was miserable being inside all the time and was super irritable, not eating, etc. and that was on cat Prozac. He just wanted to be outside, we had a big yard surrounded by woods, and he knew his shit. He never came back hurt and there were only like 2 times we really thought he went missing. He was part maine coon I don’t know if that matters

my indoor/outdoor cat is the BEST. he’s outlived all my other (only indoor) cats by a few years. he’s 16 now and still THRIVING, catching animals still and lays in the sun enjoying his life every day. he’s my whole world that being said his sister got run over about ten years ago. it’s definitely a high risk high reward type deal. just make sure he’s very accustomed to home and knows that’s his place to come back to. mine loves exploring but he’s never not come back🤍

my point is if you're want your cat to be able to go outside buy a leash and a harness and take them out that way being outside can be really dangerous for them especially if you ever move I know people who's cats went outside and never returned bc they were determined to find their old house or just got too lost

Ppl are downvoting you and I mean I agree that cats shouldn’t be let outside unsupervised. However, I think if someone is really dead set on letting their cat outdoors, then this is great advice and could really provide great insight

that to say that it’s up to you, people can tell you not to, and you can research the pros and cons but really it’s up to you. Also working cats are a thing I don’t know if people forgot those exist. My local animal shelter will say if I cat has to be adopted as a working cat.

I think it's different when it's a cat that's already been introduced to the outside especially one that's partially feral. I agree it's not worth it for them to be miserable but if you are raising a cat from a kitten I just don't think it's responsible to allow them outside without supervision. my cats are smart but we still had close calls with them so yeah idk that's just my opinion though
