A) you could have commented on your first post rather than 2 separate ones but despite my suspicion you’re a bot, I’ll answer B) If you genuinely feel you are unfit to care for this pet, as in feeding it, cleaning the box, maybe 15 min of play a day and possibly investing in treat puzzles - yes, surrender it. You’re not a bad person for recognizing you cannot fulfill basic needs and they deserve more. It makes you a responsible person to do that.
B cont) If you simply work a lot and feel bad about lack of enrichment, there are ways to provide this still. I’m not one of those people that will tell you to get a second kitten, especially if finances are a concern for the first pet alone, but this is technically an option. Alongside treat puzzles, sensor driven automatic toys, auto feeders to give snacks if you need to break up food time (on mine you can give extra but we use it for weight control), toys they can play with on their own,
scratch towers; sometimes we leave cat tv on our tv while we run errands. There are things you can do. I also have a tight budget but I have various reasons I can make three cats work (I’m in vet med, discounts; combined income with partner), however, again, if finances are a concern I would also consider rehoming or at least looking into local resources for basic vaccines and spay/neuter because those are very important things. Look into a CareCredit card too. It’s pretty good.
I’m not a bot I swear. I’m a full time college student with a very demanding major. I study a lot and take school seriously so I’m often gone for 8 hours +. My kitten is very well behaved overall, but I haven’t slept past 6:30am because she wakes me up so early with her meowing. I think once she’s passed the kitten stage it will be fine. I just over think everything in life. Thank you for your detailed response!
