My cat drinks out of the toilet even tho she has a perfectly clean filtered water fountain that her daughter drinks out of all the time. So now I clean the toilet and flush it like 15 times just incase she drinks out of it. What do I do? (She’s 11yo).

one of my childhood cats also did this when she got older, we think it was because the water was colder? anyways we left the lids down on the toilets upstairs and we all stopped using the downstairs toilet so she could safely drink from it lol

childproofing the lid is an option but tbh she's probably fine, cats have a stronger stomach for that kind of bacteria

Toilet lock and if its bc the water is colder maybe chill the water in the bowl somehow? Like add an icepack or something. The issue could also be the fact its a fountain, maybe she doesn’t like the running water

what do you clean it with? bleach or toilet cleaner is def more likely to get a cat sick than poop germs

I mean the locks for toilets are different than child locks

You said there’s cats who know how to open everything. I’d like to see an animal without opposable thumbs try to crack one of these bad boys
