Tip for anyone new to house plants: if you have any pets that can get near your plants, look up which plants can make them ill before you decide what to get

Cactus is a good one! And I suggest spider plant if you want a leafy plant

pothos plants would probably thrive even if you gave them nothing but dr pepper and they look pretty obviously sad when they need water, zz plants are damn near impossible to underwater, rex (NOT angel wing) begonias tend to be pretty hardy in the right lighting, and most kinds of succulents and cactuses will not die as long as you don’t overwater them

basically any plant that does not have regular and specific watering requirements, anything that can hold up through being under watered is always good. plants that also love consistently wet soil, like ferns, are pretty good too as long as you use the right soil and check it for root rot regularly.
