They have a pit of a strange yearly cycle when it comes to succulents, so it takes a little more knowledge to do it right, but once you do they’re actually some of the lowest maintenance

During portions of the year they switch almost entirely to just using their own stored water. Watering them at that point is not good for them. It’s also easy to misinterpret this part of their cycle as them dying when it’s just normal. They absorb the outer leaves and new set grows from the center. Sometimes they can have twins! And then you have a whole new plant :D
