That amazes me that people don’t look at the stats of things. The gap isn’t even close to what she’s doing. And she releases so many versions, but that’s the people’s choice to buy. And so many artist do that and don’t pull the number she does. I say Don’t have an opinion about Music if you can’t look at the stats and appreciate what you see and that goes for any artist not just Taylor Swift

Most big pop artists drop 10+ versions of every album, but its most effective for taylor. People should really be criticizing the artists who drop many versions and cant sell em, because thats a waste

Her stats are great if you don’t account for the artificial inflation. I don’t dislike her - but the issue is Taylor is infamous for uses her money to manipulate charts. Thats not the sign of someone who is at the top of the pyramid, thats a sign of having a financial advantage who is choosing it to push out potential ‘competition’. To me running the industry would mean running the industry. She still sits under universal at the moment though.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> OP 1d

She doesn’t manipulate charts, it’s not about financial advantage. She’s at top of the pyramid because of her art and her fandom. The eras tour is proof of that. She has 80,000+ people inside the stadium and another 15,000 outside. And some cases she has 100,000+ people in the stadium and 15,000 outside. She did this for two years. You don’t see that within the other artists. Look at her re-records. Her rerecords have out sold other big artists whole brand new projects.

No, most release 2 other version and only of their most popular work. Majority dont have the funds to pump out 10+ versions because how many they do is determined by their label.

And that is just vinyls, not counting digital things. All artists do it. Actually I can’t say all, but most big artists do it

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #9 1d

She earned her way there but now you can not deny that she uses her money and pull with her label to stay there. Very little in the music industry is determined by hard work alone, especially now a days where labels take less risk on new artists. Thats actually why Ejae nearly got so screwed over.

I would advise you to look up all the variances that other artists do. Because it’s not just Taylor Swift. Brats had a lot. Sour and guts had a lot. A lot of these artists are pushing out 10+ album variants. And guess what? The people buy it! you can’t make people buy it. That’s why it works for Taylor Swift because the people buy it. It’s not her fault other fandoms aren’t as big as hers.

Okay no, now that just the fan in you talking. I’m not saying she is a bad musician but denying outlying factors aren’t involved is insane. Thats like believing plants go viral on their own merits. The music industry is highly manipulated. Her fans are hard core but a lot of money goes into keeping them that way.

You’re not even educated on what you’re talking about, you’re talking about album variance, and how she has money to fund these. But all these other big artists are doing the same thing and are not pulling the numbers she is. Look at streams she’s doing a crazy amount of numbers in streams. And Taylor Swift was not affected by Spotify, removing bot streams.

Vinyl variants are not different versions of the songs….. they’re different versions of the print…. For example- vinyls with different cover art

Are you talking about physical albums or remixes. I don’t count collectable cause that goes into a wildly different conversation regarding consumerism

You’re acting like a lot of artists don’t remix their songs, whether it’s another artist on it, but you said you’re not talking about that, or whether it’s a DJ on it remix remixing it which Taylor Swift does and so does a lot of other artists. Lady Gaga does this?! J-hope release a whole album of different song variance, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen an artist released slow versions of their songs, sped up versions of their songs, or DJ remixes of their songs.

So just because Taylor Swift is successful and so popular as she is, and she does the same thing many artists does it’s her manipulating charts? Because I’ll go bring the receipts of all these other artists doing the same things she does.

I’m not saying they don’t, but none of them remix their own music to the extent Taylor does. Also there is a difference between licensed remixes and remixes released by an artists. As of 2023, she had over 50. Look you can be as upset as you want but its not a realistic understanding of how the music business operates.

That’s the problem, you’re singling out Taylor Swift, because of how popular she is. If we took all these variants and everything away, Taylor Swift would still be as big as she is and pulling more numbers than any other artist. First week, Sales. First week streams. And let me remind you, Taylor Swift was not affected by bot streaming that Spotify removed.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #12 23h

Correct. If everyone dropped the same amount of music, Taylor would still be winning. There are actually far more egregious players (see Morgan Wallen’s 37 song album), but Taylor gets the brunt because shes the biggest

No I’m not singling her out - but she is the main topic because it is the most relevant right now and we both know nots are not the only way to boost your numbers. Remember when katy perry kept trying to push “woman’ world”? By how fast the rest of her album has fallen out, I think we can agree there is something up with this. I like Taylor’s music but I’m just not convinced she has not been doing her best work recently album wise and it feel obvious media manipulation is involved.

I agree that her recent work isnt her best. I would argue shes earned the right to be complacent because she worked hard early on and built a loyal base. Ofc her early albums are better, thats usually the case with artists that “made it”
