because they dont at all, taylors swift recent album for example is on track to become the best selling album of all time. does that mean its the best album of all time? no lmao. yes music is subjective but tlosag is NOT the best album of all time

Its not on track. The biggest albums oat got like 70+ weeks in the top 10. This album needs to prove itself over the next 2 years

You cant just look at first week units. Gotta use longevity and compare to competition (which is why top 10 weeks is such a good metric), as well as streaming longevity

For example Starboy (9 years old) nearly outstreamed TTPD last week globally

Nope. 21 spent like half a year at #1 and years in the top 10

TTPD had a huge first week and now it can barely beat 5 year old albums like sour and after hours and they got like half the songs

which is exactly my point, streams do not equate music quality. just because something has a great first few weeks, doesnt mean its a great album

Streams over a 5 year period do indicate quality. If people keep listening for an extended period its good. First few weeks are just people trying the album

You just gotta know what metrics to value. I never care about the first month of any album because its purely hype based

we are both arguing different things, my op was about first weeks streams, ur point is about longevity which i totally agree with. that was also my point 😅 swifties will say an album is good because it did really good the first day when streams dont make and album good (first week streams specifically)

Fair point, we do agree on the longevity point. Some idiot swifties would say fortnite is a bigger song than espresso because “it went #1”

EXACTLY my point, esp when theres mass buying and streaming involved. does not make the album any better just because it does well on the charts

Yep those 15 versions and shit makes first week streams completely irrelevant as a metric. Only casuals who dont know better metrics talk about first week streams
