Hot take: anytime anyone famous gets accused of something and the person suddenly comes out saying they lied I always believe the celeb threatened them or paid them off to make the issue go away. Who would be bold enough to accuse these beloved celebs?

What cash are you gonna get from it? If you are truly lying you’re gonna get found out and like we just saw with Cory, people are gonna hate on you from the jump

Are you sure about that like, most infamous case MJ, those boys lied he didn’t take it to trial he just paid them because it was ruining his name; the boys as adults came out and said they lied because their parents told them to. Two of the four commit self deletion and mention how he was innocent and never hurt them in their goodbye letters and couldn’t live with the guild. So yeah a cash grab.

That started a precedent of accusations and then stars paying rather than going to court. Because fun fact sexual assault has a lower threshold of proof in civil court than it does criminal court, which is why most go the civil route instead of criminal; cause common sense if someone hurts me and commits a crime I want them in jail first not money first. But opposite for cash grabs.

Then the next question is: if some random person on yikyak can know this how come celebrities with big legal teams don’t and why would they pay them instead of taking the person to court? (I’m seriously asking btw)

Do you know how long the civil battle is in some cases lol, civil cases can span years. lol imagine filing a case in 94’ and not getting resolution till ‘97 with a 30% of winning. It’s easier to pay because some defendants can hold it that a plaintiff is responsible for their attorneys fees after ruling. So it’s not just that, not some random a 2L student.

Another popular civil cas Depo v Heard, it started in like ‘19 with UK and U.S. hearings about the defamation suit and assault the official court time was April-June ‘22. Took some time

But if they can’t prove that the person did the crimes (you said there’s a lower threshold of proof in criminal court), then their name will be cleared regardless and they won’t have to pay (what judge would make someone who’s not guilty pay for their accusers court fees?)

No because the court of public opinion is more damning than any legal court. MJ was found to be innocent by an FBI investigation and yet to this damn day past his death people still call him out his name and accuse him of the crimes. So no it’s pretty easy to tarnish a name in the public eye and it’s hard to get your reputation back.
