Depends on how devout they are. But there are questions you need to answer before you commit long term. Especially if you want kids. Many religions borderline force their children to be indoctrinated in the church. If you’re opposed to it and he isn’t, then it’s going to cause tension. Same with expectations around holidays and family gatherings. Can it work? Sure. But if you have a fundamental difference in core beliefs, just know it will take a LOT of work on both ends to make it happen
also if you have kids and break up, it could be up to the courts to decide which parent is able to teach them about religion. The courts usually decide that parents can split this right (and it's classified with medical & educational decisions) but if you're in a conservative area or just go on a day with a conservative judge ruling over it, it could go against you for there to be a big difference in belief.
I think we both share the idea of teaching our kids a balanced mindset, being curious instead of taking any one thing as ultimate truth. Exploring, traveling, learning about different cultures and environments and beliefs. He’s not very devout, he just believes there’s a “grand designer” and someone who might be looking out for us. I on the other hand don’t necessarily disagree, I just don’t know and I’m okay with not knowing and exploring all the billions of ways we got where we are.
