I know YikYak is a liberal echo chamber that loves Mamdani, but here are the actual statistics: The top 1% of New Yorkers contributed 45% of the total taxes. Millionaires leaving has caused an 11 billion decrease in tax revenue.

LOL I know the exact statistic you are referencing, that $11 billion was from 2003-2020, not once in Mamdanis mayoral period. You just can’t get over the fact that he’s the most successful politician in the US right now

Care to cite those stats?

So we’re supposed to adhere to everything that those with money want and do nothing about it due to fear of them leaving places where they’re not wanted. Gotcha.

The only properties that fell in value are high end luxury apartments. These are still unaffordable for most working class people. General housing has seen only increases in value, along with the general cost of living.

However, if Mamdani breaks the cycle of corruption, it’s possible the city may be more prosperous in the end.

He’s actively targeting minorities too, and recently Italians.

All of these things are facts supported by actual tax reports. Raw numbers with no bias behind them. You can look it up yourself.

New York mayors have been notoriously corrupt. It’s very likely that corruption costs the city more than 11 billion annually. It would be very cool if he manages to fix all of that.

No. This is for the 2022 year alone. The issue is that we will very likely see a similar thing. In 2021 taxes were raised for people making over 1 million from 8.82% to 9.75% Many millionaires left for other states, which caused NY to miss out on 11 billion dollars in 2022. https://cbcny.org/research/hidden-cost-new-yorks-shrinking-millionaire-share

And that is what happened when taxes were increased by just a bit over a percent. Mamdani is proposing an even more massive tax. So the actual amount lost would be likely much larger than 11 billion.

and who was mayor of nyc at that time? this whole fear mongering happened right when mamdani was elected because trump can’t control him. yet when he got elected, nobody left like they said they were. it’s all the same boogeyman they control you with

I am not saying that the 11 billion lost is Mamdani’s fault. It’s a mistake the previous New York government made. But here is the actual lesson: Higher tax rate = people leaving Less people = less people to tax Less total tax = less social services This is the backfire that happened last time. If Mamdani follows through his proposition it will be a repetition of what happed in 2022.

well all i’m seeing is an increase in social services everywhere in the city. you can fear monger all you want, doesn’t change the fact that he has improved new york for everyone

If this ain’t cherry picking idk what is. Y’all will use every little scrap of information that even slightly supports your side to justify to yourselves that those on the opposite side of the political spectrum as you are terrible, while ignoring the heaps of evidence showing that those in power from your side are often 100x worse. Specifically those in the White House rn
