OMG im gonna cry!! You tried to call me dumb. Grow up and go work in the real world. Do me a favor, go work in a program that helps the disadvantaged. I did, that right there is what changed me from the left to the right. I saw MANY people in a daily basis choose to mooch off the system. People taking benefits out of the hands of people who do really need it!! There are tons of jobs, if you don’t believe me go look in the newspaper, or indeed, or LinkedIn or just google jobs close by.
You need to be able to acknowledge facts even when they don’t agree with your narrative. The private sector alone losing 30,000 jobs over this last quarter heavily impacts thousands of people. The government being shut down heavily impacts thousands of people. Companies pledging to keep AI for entry level jobs to replace workers heavily impacts thousands of people. You do the same thing a child does when they view the world from their perspective and not from a larger view of actual reality.
One can always create there own job, that’s what we do in Mexico, we find it, we don’t wait around with our fingers in our asses and cry about it. We have to feed ourselves and our family’s. How does one create a job, look for what’s lacking. We need more people in the trades, we need plumbers, electricians HVAC workers, etc and from there start promoting yourself. It’s possible! I promise! My former boss (had to leave for this new position but she was great) had a small business,
But with blood sweat and tears she made it into a multimillion dollar franchise … in the span of 10 years! A single mother! 2 boys! No college education but a single cosmetology trade. I know her story is 1 in a million, but other people like my neighbor make good money too, own 6 cars and 2 houses. My dad’s friend and electrician was able to send his kids to college completely paid.
Cousins that are working for HVAC two years ago, just bought his own house. It’s not that I wanna see Americans fail, but it’s that I see that there’s a cheat code and people are not taking advantage of it and that frustrates me. I’m not saying that those subsidies shouldn’t exist, but they’re not there to stay on for a long time. They’re not there to depend on for the rest of your life.
Here. I challenge you to actually acknowledge that those things I mentioned have real impacts. Your sentiment is nice in theory. But you saying “just pull yourself up by your boot straps” just isn’t a feasible argument for all those affected by things like this. For example, how would a homeless man who has medical and neurological issues go about finding a consistent paying job?
As someone he used to work in a homeless shelter, there are programs to help with that within the homeless shelters. Most people just don’t want to take advantage of them. They will help them get on meds. They will help them find their free résumé making Center, they will help them with interviews. But if they truly are 100% unable to care for themselves, then they should have access. I’m not saying they shouldn’t. However people love to take advantage of these programs, and because they
Don’t need it, they want life to be easier. My bio-dad is one of those people who just try to take advantage and it’s so sad to see, because as I see people who genuinely need it aren’t getting the support that they need because then the government giving it to people who are taking advantage of the system.
No, genuinely try to do what I just asked. One sentence isn’t an explanation. I’m trying to make a point here but I need you to engage with it as if it’s worth talking about, because it is. How would a homeless man who has neurological issues and medical issues obtain consistent work in order to not need to live on the streets?
i’d much rather have people take advantage of a system if it means getting the real people the help that they need, rather than cutting programs for everyone including the needy. also you never ever know someone’s circumstances. they could be raising a rape baby they were forced to have because of republicans. it’s not fair to make blanket statements just because you are better off than them
I am, and if you fully read what I said you’d see that I said that people like that should be able to get that help. But honestly most are in a state of extreme drug dependency that personally I’d like them to go to rehab first. But as you can see, if people like my dad take advantage then people like this homeless man have less funds they can access for medical (mental and physical), housing, and other programs.
I’m not asking you for a moral position. I’m asking you to explain to me how someone in that situation, the one I gave, would achieve consistent work from a professional perspective. Answer that please, how would that happen. I’m contesting the idea that you can just “work” harder and it pans out.
This isn’t mentioning btw, Approximately 25% to 60% of people experiencing homelessness have jobs, with different studies reporting varying figures. For example, a 2021 University of Chicago study found that 53% of shelter residents and 40% of unsheltered individuals were employed.
