I’ve been an RA for 2 years (in 3rd year now) and love it, but my new supervisor is the worst. They make me feel miserable, and I’ve thought about quitting. What can or should I do? Is there a way to continue loving it? Should I just quit? I’m at a loss!

How badly do you need the job? Bc if you can survive without it I’d be petty af and quit and make it very well known that she’s the reason why. A couple more reasonable options: keep taking it higher (maybe get some support from your other RAs so pro staff more likely to see it’s a real problem) or just wait it out bc the people who are shitty bosses are the ones that either don’t last long in housing or the rest of the pro staff also hate and wanna get them out just as badly

Have they done anything that is reportable?

I’ve been looking into it, but I don’t think so. It’s things like: she’s not doing her job/things she’s supposed to do, she speaks to the staff like we’re children, and she asserts her power over the staff any chance she gets. This is just a few things, but there’s so much more, just not reportable, I don’t think. Not to mention, I’ve already spoken to my supervisor above her, and he just defended and made excuses for her.

Unfortunately we don’t do that here. We’re a small school, so where we’re at is where we’re at.

Don’t actually be petty about it that was like 95% a joke on my part lol

I thought about quitting, but 1) financial aid won’t give me barely any aid for next semester, 2) the staff is mostly new and will struggle without me, which they also keep saying they want me to stay, and 3) I love the job. Plus, majority of the staff agree with me and/or have come to me with similar complaints. There’s only one person above the people I’ve gone to so I’m waiting to see if there’s anything actually reportable before going.

And that’s a good point. She’s been neglecting to do things for/with the other pro staff as well, but I don’t know their thoughts to be able to gauge how annoyed they are with it. I hope she leaves because I honestly don’t think she’s fit for the job.

I totally get your arguments for staying, and honestly I think if they’re bringing their boss issues to you then you need to see if 2-3 of them will go with you when you decide to try addressing it again. She’s prob not fit gonna be so real I’ve seen this at my school with pro staff that kinda got pushed out. Low key if you’re close enough with any of the other pro staff (or any recently quit pro staff) get the tea bc knowing their stance on her will help you present your argument better
