I want to be an RA at a specific apartment next year but RAs don’t pick their assignment. What tips do you have for working towards this goal

In interviews really make sure to pitch that you would be good in that building but don’t specifically say that. If you lived there give examples of what you would do to improve residential areas and what not. I made sure to emphasize the idea I was better with upperclassman than freshmen while still maintaining a balance of being an overall good RA choice

When I was in interviews I specifically emphasized how much I love a certain area and how well I know it. Then once I got a summer offer (not full year offer), I became friends with the area director and talked with them about how much I love the area. Now they personally lined up a position for me for the school year in the area I like

I worked front desk the year before i was an ra. I got super close to the RD and the RAs, and they all made sure I got a spot in that building. So that approach could work

My school has areas with special interest housing. If the area you want has something like that that you’re a good fit for then you can try to get that specific building

I was also trying to look into building a relationship with the apartments hall director but that is kinda looking difficult

The money is the same regardless of whether you are in a dorm or an apartment.y school’s stipend is quite high but we only get free housing. So I might asw try and get an apartment that is worth far more than a dorm.

That’s also not the reason some people do it.
