Don’t be afraid to ask questions most of us are happy to help! Also make sure you take care of yourself, especially after any mental health calls or any incident involving more difficult topics

Don’t give residents personal phone numbers or snapchat. Be firm about policy but not an asshole. I always talk to my residents about policy from an angle of “i don’t want to get you in trouble. I am here to keep you safe. I understand we are college students and are gonna do college student things” Be present and visible! Once my residents started seeing me out in common areas more often my relationship with them improved! (Plus its a great way to get 1 on 1s done)

Make sure you get your reports/programming in on time, advocate for yourself and peers, establish firm boundaries with residents, workers, and higher-ups because you will be taken advantage of if you don’t do
