How well does your department do with supporting RAs through mental or physical health crisis? Asking because my bosses are trying to get me to quit the job instead of helping and supporting me in my time of need.

They do well in the sense of like they try to make sure you’re in a good head space to continue with your job. So whether that be relieving you of your duties for a little bit and coming back or just checking in with you every other week.

It sounds like your supervisor is one of the ones that visibly hates their life. If you can’t talk to them about finding accommodations, talk to one of the people that actually wants to be there. If that person happens to be their boss or someone who is involved in your community then hey you needed someone discuss the issue with and they were being a dick 🤷‍♀️

it really depends on what we’re talking when we say crisis - are still you able to fulfill your duties as an RA and provide support to your residents? bc if not I highly suggest taking a leave of some kind. taking care of yourself is the first step to taking care of others

Same services as students available. And 1:1s with your RD but depending on your boss… that can be good or bad.

I can still take care of everything, I just need support in the form of minor emotional support and a little bit of leeway

You’re a person first, student second, RA third. Make sure your pro staff know that, and if there is anyone who has said something similar or offered for you to reach out if you need to, that’s a good person to contact. I hope you are able to start recovering and get the support you need from housing!
