I stayed in my college town for the summer and I get hot way to easily and sweat in my sleep so I always kept the AC on 68-70. My roommate just moved in and her mom (my landlord) is staying with us until the 25. I woke up at 3:30 and the AC was on 76…

I also woke up literally dripping in sweat on the back of my neck and back 😐 and my roommate know that I get overheated really easily 🤦‍♀️ I’m just gonna have to deal with it until her mom leaves but I’m already annoyed and want to go back to living alone 😭 and it sucks bc I LOVE my roommate and her mom is super sweet. They’re just actual clean FREAKS and like to keep the AC at 76 😤😐

This is something you should mention in front of the mother. Especially if she visits in the future, as the roomie that’s always cold it’s easier for me to put layers on. Ik how frustrating it can be to be hot constantly, but if your roommate agreed to it, it should already be in effect and the mom should know for any future issues that could arise.

If you overheat so easily shouldn’t that mean you get more say on the temperature? You might be able to have it at 68-70 anymore but you could definitely get it down to 70-72 I think

Tbh I thought they forgot 💔 they didn’t say anything about it last night when they got here so I think her mom waiting until everyone was asleep and changed it

Do a gentle reminder for now with both of them. Honestly even if mom is the landlord she shouldn’t be touching the thermostat like that.

My dad owns the house my brother lives in at college and rents out the other rooms. The only time he touches the thermostat is if it’s on a stupid temperature like 80 (it’s a nest and the eco mode is messed up a little). Just say “hey I just wanted to remind you that I overheat really easily so do you mind if I turn the temperature back down a little?” If the mom gets pissy that’s on her for thinking she can walk into a house she doesn’t live in and change things.

She and her mom are grocery shopping but I just texted her this “Hey pookie can I change the temp on the AC to like 74? When I woke up this morning I was sweating on my neck and back and saw that the AC is set at 77…?”

That’s good that’s good. No blame tossed and a reasonable temperature chosen. Can’t imagine her saying no to that

Ok ok update it was my roommate who changed it bc she’s from Florida and in her house she always has it at 77 but we talked it out and she said that 74 was fine and that she was glad we were talking about it now

Ooooh Still crappy of them to change it in the middle of the night but at least you worked it out

No I still kinda agree… she said she was cold but I said “when it’s warm and 77 and I’m in a tank top and shorts there’s not much I can do to cool down but if it’s cooler we can use blankets and stuff to warm up” it’s easier to get warmer than it is to get colder clothing wise imo

Tbh I don’t think her mom knew but I had a convo with my roommate and I think we’re at a good understanding now! We’re keeping it at 74 which is still a little warm for me but it’s fine bc I’ll take 74 over 77 anyday….
