I’m looking for a furry roommate similar to the ones you guys post. But I don’t know a thing about cats, and I hated the puppy stage. But kittens are so cute. Need all the kittens 101So kittens are a TON of work, similar to puppies (except you don’t have to take them out every few hours). You gotta make sure they’re potty trained before you adopt them because if they’re not then you got a ton of more research to do. It’s also best to have 2 at the same time so they don’t develop what’s known as single kitten syndrome, which can make them aggressive to other animals and humans. You should make sure you have a cat fountain to promote them drinking water because cats often-
Oh also on the toys and stimulation side of things- get a cat tower so they can climb. Cats love being on high grounds so they can see everything. Lick mats are great for mental stimulation and getting puzzle toys are also great to make sure they’re smart and not bored/understimulated. Lots of people forget cats need mental stimulation just like dogs. Also cats under the age of 1 often don’t react to catnip so try to find crinkle toys and use wand/teaser toys with them (this can help w/ bonding)
-will not drink water if it’s not flowing due to a biological instinct that stagnant water=diseases. You should also make sure you’re feeding a combination of wet and dry food (again because they NEED the moisture of the wet food because cats are super prone to urinary issues). Trimming their nails is a thing you need to do every few weeks (or at least once a month) because their nails can grow and curl into their paws. You should also make sure they’re ok with you touching their paws by giving-
-them little paw massages every now and then, especially when they’re being cuddly so they know that touching paws=safe and comfortable. Clay litter isn’t great for them and can hurt their paws but most other litters (like sand litter, walnut litter, paper litter) don’t clump as easily when it comes to pee. Also you should scoop the poop out of their litter box once a day (once every other day is ok too but don’t leave it for longer than that) it also helps when you have to deep clean the-
-litter box bc most of the grosser work is already done by then. Also (going back to litter) sometimes cats are picky when it comes to their litter so you may have ti cycle through a few different ones to see what works for you. For feeding, you want to feed like they’re an adult. Also it’s better to do meals (so feed like 1/4 cup in the morning and then 1/4 cup in the afternoon) instead of free feeding. Free feeding can make cats more susceptible to being overweight and having weight-
-management issues. Free feeding also makes it harder to tell when your cat isn’t eating as much and could be experiencing lack of appetite due to illness. Cats hide their illness very well too so if your cat shows any signs of being sick/injured you need to get them to the vet asap. Also make sure you can handle the cost of spaying/neutering a kitten as well as vaccine costs (look up kitten vaccine schedule to give you a better idea of it) and make sure you have money saved up in case any-
