rm turned off the AC before leaving. came back to it being 85° in the apt. like i understand wanting to save energy but now it's basically cancelled out bc the ac has to work harder to recool the apt. WE LIVE IN LOUISIANA IT GETS HOT AS FUCK

It actually takes more energy to keeping turning it off and on than it would be to just set an away temperature because of the system has to keep cooling down a hot space rather than maintaining a consistent temperature.

Nah I'm with you. I always set ours to like 73 cause it easily reaches high 80s inside during the day rn and still high 70s at night inside (Colorado heat kills me💀) plus it's been so humid cause of the "monsoon" season we're in. But ofc my bf always decides to turn it off or to 65. This man cannot function in anything lower than 70 then goes and complains that our energy bill is too high🥲

It costs more to turn it off and on, keep it on auto -HVAC guy

It would have to fight to maintain a constant temperature - not only this but AC work on a set temperature meaning setting the AC to 60 as opposed to 70 does not make it reach 70 degrees any faster
