I think we should normalize making sure ALL of our roommates feeling safe. I feel like this is something that shouldn’t need to be told it’s just expected.

my roommate used to never lock the front door an we lived in an unsafe area. it literally got to a point where i or one of my other roommates would have to go and check to make sure the door was locked at like 11 p.m when she got home from work every night. it was often not locked. an we reminded her. multiple times. she also one time left the door unlocked and wide fucking open for a whole day.

I’ve asked them to make sure it’s locked and even locked it myself but I still wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and it’s always unlocked😭

Mine used to do this too so I hid all her expensive stuff so she thought someone stole it bc the door was open and then after she panicked I gave it back and she stopped

“Nothing has ever happened” has got to be the stupidest excuse for leaving a door unlocked I’ve ever heard in my life

My current theories are a) some people are too lazy to carry a key and b) some small towns don’t need to have locked doors and people from said small towns can’t comprehend that not everywhere works like that
