I literally come home inbetween my morning class to let her out. I wouldn’t wanna be locked in a cage all day either:( I’d keep her out but she would find something to get into

Also if it’s aggressive towards other people and dogs (I’m all for rescues/rehab, but a college campus is not the place. Mostly talking about dogs)

Was roommates with this one girl who’d get angry that I told her when her cat pooped outside the litter box as if it hadn’t been full all day long. Her cat also had poop all over the fur on her legs and tail. It was gross and I feel bad for that cat

I’ve adjusted my life around my dog, I don’t party anymore and can’t go some places bc of him, but I wouldn’t change it, he helps me so much and deserves the best life. But I was also willing to do that, I knew what was gonna happen when I got a dog

Im working on getting an ESA, and Im worried that I'll turn out that way. Realistically, I know I would be very responsible about litter box cleaning+maintenance because the smell isnt too much for me, but im worried about her being in the room and how it might affect her. I know that usually cats require less stimulation, but I'm still looking into all kinds of toys, small cat towers/beds, and also a cat harness and leash for walks? Idk, I'm just scared that it would be worse for her with me.

OH my god okay so not even my roommate but my friend’s roommate has a 3 year old adorable baby dawg and they just leave him in his kennel like all day even when they’re HOME like the dog is still in the kennel. it’s so bad it has gotten to the point where my friend and i will ask the roommate if we can let their dog out to play and go on walks etc because they won’t

The worst rn is that my roommate’s dog doesn’t make any noise or wag his tail anymore because he is just in his kennel all day and it actually makes me want to call some kind of service to get him out because it’s so sad

I have two cats actually, I’m just so sad that you think cats can just be neglected and still be happy. They need human love and care, no animal can be entirely self sufficient

Get a friend of yours who wants a dog, or a family member that works too, give the dog to them when the roommate is gone. When the roommate asks where it went say you have no idea and maybe they need to remember to properly close the door to the room when they leave.

I believe it’s a misconception that cats require less stimulation, they’re just chronically under stimulated… I had a cat in college and sometimes did not give him the proper attention and care. Though, I walked him around campus (and should have done so more) and invested in toys that would turn on with a timer (like an automatic laser pointer). Always left his favorites around the dorm. Catnip and treats on the regular. Cat tree. If I could go back, id walk him more and get a window perch

lmao my ex roommate got a puppy and for its first maybe 8 months she was home all day and barely went to class… then she got a job that had her working 10+ hour shifts every day… that dog would not shut up.

That can get OP in a lot of legal trouble. Don’t give someone else’s property away - yes, dogs are living beings, but under the law, they are also property. OP, many people put their dogs in kennels for up to 7 hours while at work. Dog daycare is only marginally better, with a 30 minute play session between still being crated all day at most places. Maybe you could take him for a walk or just let him roam while you’re home with your roomies permission?

How long do you expect to be out of the apartment? Cats can be alone for 8 hours, but you’ll want to give them plenty of attention and stimulation when you are home. If you plan to be out for 12+ hours a day then maybe getting a pet might not be a good idea. But also if you do get a cat, adopt from a shelter bc even if you can’t be the perfect pet owner, you’ll still be giving them a better life than they would have in a shelter

Also getting a bonded pair or older cats is better if you plan be out a lot. Good luck!

See thats an easy pointy to make, when 1 you don’t have all of the information to make an educated argument. 2. Have no idea the living arrangements/ household 3. You have no information in order to make any sense based off of one sentence that opposes the directive of the thread.
