Omg….you guys are completely blowing my comments out of proportion. I also never said you SHOULDNT talk to your roommates at all. I’m sure nobody is intentionally ignoring you, some people are just quiet or they’re shy. Silence is not that awkward. Being quiet doesn’t = ignoring. Not saying hello every single time you guys see each other isn’t *rude*.
Not everyone chooses to have roommates bc they want to make connections, for some it’s just the most cost-effective option. Stop punishing ppl for being quiet bc you feel awkward. Ppl generally don’t owe you anything but respect. As long as they’re being friendly and courteous it shouldn’t really matter whether or not they talk to you every single day. They don’t have an obligation to make you feel less awkward bc of who they are. They do have an obligation however to respect your boundaries.
For some ppl they generally don’t feel like they have to talk to you at all. And it’s not disrespectful for them. I also don’t see it as being inherently rude. If you feel uncomfortable about it, just talk to them about it instead of making posts. Or move out. I mean you said they didn’t say hi at all or anything. Does this mean you attempted to and they just ignored you?
Okay so answer everything you just said. Again, I dont want them to force themself to say hi. But even just one is enough. Since move in day I’ve said hi and introduced myself as well as asking questions. No one has talked or anything. And your “Being quiet doesn’t = ignoring” thats exactly why I said that there is a difference. And your “They don’t have an obligation” Thats why I said nobody should force anyone to do something. I understand your point but theres no need to be rude about it.
And yeah you say that no one should have to force anything, but idk if you’re like making posts about it and complaining about a specific behavior on a public platform, it kind of looks like to me it is making you uncomfortable and you do want them to talk more. If that’s the case, then you should talk to housing and maybe get a room switch. But like I said, this is honestly the least of your worries unless they’re bad communicators or start acting rudely towards you.
