When you both are in the room together have a talk about rules/guidelines for living together

just make small talk and get a sense of understanding of eachother

compliment their decor! bonus points if its a conversation-starting piece (like a band poster), and don’t be afraid to follow up with “where did you get it?” or something to encourage conversation
