Some people didn’t grow up having access to a dishwasher. I think some people need a reminder about this. It was a financial privilege to have one where I grew up.

yes! i have never used a dishwasher. the apartment i grew up in was made before dishwashers became mainstream, so i never used one. the apartment i live in now with my dad has one, but he refuses to use it bc of the electricity and water used for it. i hate that ppl think im slow for not knowing how to use one. it just makes no sense

Like I’m willing to use a dishwasher if a home has one, but please don’t insult people for not being used to using a dishwasher. It can take time to get used to for some of us. You don’t have to insult people’s intelligence for forgetting to use the dishwasher. Not saying anyone is doing this here, but I’ve lived with people who have done this.

yeah i had a dishwasher in my last house (moved a lot as a kid & didn’t have them) but even when we did it was so broken we just didn’t even bother with it & kept with hand washing lmao. i prefer hand washing my dishes anyway

i grew up with a dishwasher but it kills me when people put anything in the dishwasher. like sure DISHES make sense but tupperware? your water bottle? tongs (and those types of kitchen tools)? i mean come on that’s just lazy at this point

we had one that was broken but we couldnt afford to fix it for years. Imagine washing dishes by hand literally next to a machine that could help 😭

It’s way worse to not know how to wash dishes by hand tbh

It does save water though, which saves money if you’ve already got one in the house!

EXACTLY! i don’t see the point in a dishwasher because don’t you have to rinse the dishes first? might as well hand wash them!

Not if you use it right. There’s a good YouTube video by Techology Connections explaining this. Basically: clean the filter, make sure the sink water is hot before you start the dishwasher, close the detergent tray, and sprinkle a tiny bit of powder detergent on the outside of the detergent tray.

I also had to clean out the sprayer arms because there was mineral buildup. But once I did this, holy shit my dishwasher works perfectly

If you already have one in your place and it’s energy star certified, it saves you about $200 a year, plus is better for environment. To me that’s worth it but it’s completely fair if others would rather wash by hand

The one we have in my current place smells so bad

also the same people who grew up with one don’t always know how to use it effectively. the amount of people who chuck anything in it and too much in it and then it isn’t able to clean some dishes. it’s like any tool (washing machine, dryer, blow dryer, vacuum idk whatever) where it’s supposed to help you but it can’t do all the work if you’re abusing it

that’s how my roommates are and i just try to organize the dishwasher or i end up washing their stuff. i don’t feel like fighting over something they have never been taught or tried to learn (or sometimes common sense?) so i delusionally hope they notice that and maybe critically think why it occurred

It’s less effort and uses less water. You don’t have to clean the filter often at all. It saves so much time

i wouldn’t trust it to get the dried stuff off it. like dried tomato sauce for example. and you’ll still have to hand wash certain things that shouldn’t go in there, so you might as well just wash everything 🤷🏾‍♀️ that’s just how i see it
