Help me understand as I’ve never had roommates. Why would you want me to tell you I’m bringing someone over if we’re going straight to my room? What does it prepare you for?

imo its nice to know when someone is in your house who doesn’t live there

Home is a safe place. A stranger coming into your safe place is scary without any warning

OP, you’re a bad roommate. Be courteous and give them a heads up and if they’re asleep, just wait for another day!

Tbh for me at least it’s more so I know if I don’t want a stranger accidentally seeing me in a towel if I shower or wearing an outfit that I’d more wear with just roommates that I’m comfortable with then I can adjust. Cuz those are things I’d do in the comfort of my own home with the people that live there. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that with people who don’t love there. If that makes sense

FYI, noise levels wouldnt be any different. Thick ass walls make it impossible to hear each from each bedroom lol

They’d still be a stranger regardless.

Letting someone know doesn’t remove the aspect of “security” imo.

Right but they can mentally (or physically) prepare for that. It’s about having an aspect of control over that safe space and your HOME. If it’s a friend that will be coming over frequently just a heads up the first few times is all they really need, bc beyond that it’s routine and expected. Just make the effort to be a courteous roommate and inform them and make an introduction

Eh. I’d rather not have to meet my roommates hookups and vice versa.

If it’s a hookup then just say “heads up I’m having a guy/girl over” and leave it at that. Don’t be having hookups without telling them

And if they’re asleep?

Depends on the time. If it’s night time then yeah don’t be bringing a random person in my house while I’m asleep at 2am. If it’s in the middle of the day shoot em a text and if they sleep through it that’s their own fault

Tbh, it’s the only time I bring people over. She’s a nasty slob so it makes up for it.
