Ur roommate isn’t cool for letting their cat break a bunch of shit n ruin furniture, but you do need to take responsibility for the things ur cat does like reimbursing them for their sandwich

He's not just a "cat" he's literally your property, if she has a candle that sets one of your shirts on fire will you blame her or the candle? Obviously HER

Nah you gotta train your cat to not eat people food or jump on counters and tables where it’s kept

she also said he went through her trash can and there wasn’t even food in it. he’s never ever done something like that. my other roommate then told me my cat ran upstairs with a half eaten pop tart that he got from the roommates trash can. she also has a cat of her own that poops in my cats litter box, scratches the shit out of all the couches, and shatters glasses. i don’t say anything bc he’s a cat, it’s not his fault we as humans didn’t take the proper precautions.

Feel this. My roommate screamed at my dog for eating something she left on the fucking ottoman. I was in the shower when I heard, he cried and I had to let him sit in the bathroom

There’s some blame in having food left out and trash cans without lids they can get into, but also you do have to train your cat to not have those bad behaviors. Reward them when they use the scratching post, remove them from the room if they use the couch. Remove them from the counter if they’re in there, esp getting food. Redirect every time they go near the trashcan. It’s easier when they don’t leave things out, but it’s still your responsibility as a pet owner to train your animal

we also live in a townhouse. the only place the cat would be allowed to go where he wouldn’t be able to access the couch is her very small bedroom which isn’t fair to him

i’m not going to keep my cat locked in my tiny room 24/7. it’s not that hard to just put the food in the pantry or a drawer, literally takes 2 seconds

we did, she will be paying for all the damages to the couches, nobody has a problem with that. if she cant be considerate enough to take 5 seconds out of her day to put their food in a cabinet instead of the cat spending 24 hours in a small room behind a locked door, that’s ridiculous. she has a cat of her own and knows how difficult they can be

right, it’s such a small and easy thing to do to put ur food away!! why are we leaving half eaten food out on the counters anyway? especially when it comes at the expense of our pets :(

Bitch no. Cats will do whatever the fuck you please. This is just part of being a roommate with a person who has a cat. They could’ve backed out when they found out their roommates had a cat if they weren’t ready to sign up for a cat that might just have an annoying personality quirk. That is an uncontrollable situation. You can’t control a cats behavior. Most cats don’t respond well to training. Brain people.

Cat owners really go to the ends of the earth to defend their poorly trained animal🙄

OK, I don’t want a cat, but I will say it is hard to train an animal when you are not home all the time to be the one to do it. My dog was so well trained, and I left him for my first year of college with my parentsand I came back to him not really being trained anymore.

I wouldn’t get a cat bc every cat owner I know has a disgusting home and makes excuses for their cat doing stupid gross/shit — some of of y’all of just not equipped to own cats but you’re not ready to own up to that bc cats aren’t stupid and they can be trained :)

Then people shouldn’t be getting animals if they can’t care for them properly, like having a pet prior to college and leaving them with family cool ok but moving into an apartment and going to school and work and still getting a pet knowing you don’t have the proper time to give them is so shitty😬

No they don’t. I’ve had cats my entire life. Currently have 3. They are 100% trainable. All of them. It just takes a lot more work bc they’re smarter and more stubborn than dogs (since dogs were bred for train ability). It just takes constant work, but people who get cats don’t get cats to work with them. They get cats bc they’re “easy” and can essentially neglect them and their responsibilities as pet owners.

bro we’ve HAD a talk about it. we both agreed to continue training our cats, while also in the meantime taking the proper precautions to ensure the safety of our home AND cats. we’ve put scratch pads on all couches wherever possible, put all food in cabinets, don’t leave glasses unattended, etc. this was a mutual decision we made MONTHS ago and have continuously talked about. she’s only now leaving food out and shit bc she’s being petty other shit she was already mad about (us telling her and

Ok like idk the context but based on your original post you are just complaining you have to pay for something that is technically your fault. Obviously pay for it. Everyone leaves their food out sometimes while they wash their dishes etc. If shes just being petty then have a talk. U obviously hate each other so ngl just tough it out til ur lease ends and maybe keep ur cat locked up in ur room while ur gone bc personally Im worried she will try to feed ur cat something weird to get it sick.
