I’m assuming the landlord also knows about this and is doing about as little as the cops yeah you need to move. Has the roommate attempted to get a restraining order or anything? Because I would think the multiples reports of him breaking in would be enough for at least a TRO

This is such a shit situation, I don’t blame you OP. You should check your lease and look at what fees are involved. One I didn’t sign (and didn’t keep unfortunately, so I can’t double check) had some pretty sketchy fees in addition to the lease break fee. Also, it’s possible he’ll still be able to find y’all, depending on his connections to your friends (or their friends’ friends, perhaps). It seems like it would be cheaper and safer overall to get a PI somehow, as someone else suggested

yes she has they told her she can’t get a restraining order because they can’t serve it since he’s never at his house or something.

And the cops haven’t arrested him because…what? Isn’t there security footage from either the complex or a personal security system showing it’s him? I’m not accusing y’all of anything I’m just trying to wrap my head around the level of incompetence these cops are showing

we have a doorbell camera they just tell us they “never find him”. Even when i see him out in public and call the number they told us to call if we see him they just say it’s nothing they can do. and the camera in the apartment hall is farther way from us so it’s not a big help either.

So basically he dodges the cops by not being home and the cops are too lazy to find him (which can’t be that difficult because the dude is clearly not that smart). Yeah your options at this point are to either hire a PI or someone to track him down and have him served or move. I’d also look into if your state is a “stand your ground” one if you catch my drift.
