my roommate refused to take out their trash for a MONTH. our dorm smelt like a fast food place. i ended up taking it out and cleaning out their fridge because they refused after I constantly reminded them to. like im not your mother? I take care of my side, the least you can do is take care of your side. 🫩

I think I’m the only person who cleans the communal spaces

Last night she deadass put her laundry in the living room on the coffee table instead of putting it away and made roasted vegetables (used a different bowl to toss and season each vegetable) and proceeded to move the couch to her room (discussed and allowed) and in the process of moving the couch knocked over her several days-old fast food sodas onto the floor and left them there. Did not clean up the sodas, did not do a single dish, did not put her laundry away. Tell me why she comes home after

When I had a roommate we had an agreement that he’d do the dishes and I’d take the trash out- well he started to only do his own dishes because I wasn’t drying them and putting them away (bc that was not the agreement, I just did it a time or two to help him out), so I threw away my stuff in a separate trash bag and only took out my own. He let the trash overflow, got pissy at me, and eventually convinced his boy toy of the week to take care of it because he was ā€œdepressedā€

it baffles me how people are okay with putting their cleaning responsibilities as a grown adult onto other people that they live with and don’t even know or are supposed to be friends with

Dude, yall need to start talking to your housing departments if your roommates aren’t going to be proper roommates

Fine. Either figure out a way to get them to clean or make your peace with the fact that you’re the resident maid. This is what happens when you live with people. Yes, you’re right and she is wrong. So?

They have their own trashcan and it was smelling? And you were in a dorm room? Tell them to take it out or you will take action into your own hands. If they don’t, then their trash can gets emptied on their sheets and spread around. They can come home to the mess. Guaranteed, they start changing their behavior.

Literally last year my roommates were so bad I wanted to see how long it’d be till they took out the trash and there were literally 3 fat ass bag in the kitchen built up over like 1 & 1/2weeks

that’s how mine is! they make a mess and leave trash everywhere then leave to go home for weeks at a time. i have cleaned the dorm every single time

Then you’re gonna have to make your peace with it. But she who cleans gets to decide where things go, and if she leaves a mess, then it will fit nicely on her bed.

Ngl sounds like an unfair agreement to begin with because dishes by far have more clean up with cooking, drinking drinks, eating, etc Unless you fill up the trash can EVERYDAY it’s unfair

With the dog he had it got filled up daily because of the more raw diet he had, it stunk like high hell if not taken out nightly Not to mention I’d also be the one to clean the stove/countertops and be the one to clean the fridge out

2) Class today and gets pissed at ME for the soda on the floor and her laundry not being put away and the dishes not being done?? She goes ā€œid really appreciate it if you could help clean up the living room and kitchen, this is kind of getting ridiculous.ā€ Name ONE object out here that’s mine. Find one, and name it. And that is the object i will clean up.

Here’s another thing that just occurred to me. If you have their parents address, box up the trash and mail it to their parents with a note that says ā€œclearly your child still expects you to clean up their mess and so here it is.ā€

This is the way. Lock it up if you have to. If they give you shit for it, you buy the shittiest, roughest, 1 ply stuff you can find and stash the good stuff for yourself.

no honey that’s not how that works. we’re all adults we have responsibilities. you don’t get to negate the bare minimum responsibilities of cleaning up after yourself in a communal home just because you dont feel like it. there are health risks and one person cannot and SHOULD not be the sole person designated to clean up after more than one college adult especially when neither of these peers know each other. nobody has to do shit for others we’re not here to serve anyone but ourselves
