I don’t think that’s how it works unfortunately…. It’s a common area so it’s both of their responsibility (though it’s a shitty thing that roommate is doing). From the landlord’s side (yuck, don’t wanna defend them, but point still stands), there’s no way to know if op is telling the truth and just trying to get out of cleaning up their mess
