Little update (6 I think?) I took all of your advice and set up an RA meeting. They didn’t do much, mostly saying that they can’t do anything and it’s between us since it’s in our dorm. I’m getting really tempted to move out at this point. Advice anyone??

1- this is how I figured it would go, since they aren’t breaking any rules all you can really do is move out 2- Tiny note here, didn’t you say you were in Chicago? Iirc Illinois is an all party consent state, and recording conversations without everyone’s consent is a felony. I’d perhaps delete this vid so you don’t face real actual shit from them and maybe post a transcript instead?

take a look at fire safety codes for your college! my college won't let you take up more than 1/2 of the wall space

I know this is serious and this sucks and I hope you can solve whatever is happening with your roommate. But I just have to say. The way he picks them up and into frame at the end saying “so can i hang more” made me cackle 😂

Wallpaper is not allowed on walls in a college building it’s a fire hazard wth

It sounds like the mental break theory has been ruled out for now, but as the RA said in the video all you can do now is tell him you’re not comfortable with that much paper on the walls. If he’s still not listening request a room change

Idk honestly he’s been acting weirder and weirder and I heard him screaming for like five minutes straight in his room the other night

I was mostly going off the fact that he was speaking fairly coherently in the video, so I’m getting more of the impression that he is doing this as some sort of gag to mess with you. If you think that is what’s going on as well I would recommend just skipping straight to asking for a room transfer.

Yeah that last bit had such perfect comedic timing I almost thought it was staged. Like if this wasn’t exactly how my brother would act in this situation I wouldn’t believe it. Most dudebro conversation ever

No literally I rewatched it like “no way that’s real. This has gotta be scripted. Who talks like that”. But then I decided “ah. It’s men. Never mind. I guess this is possible”

I was hoping for a female RA but of course it was two dudes. They started talking about videos games after for like ten minutes.

You should try to see if you can get a female RA too to level the playing ground more. I think a female one would have a different approach that works better.

I wish I could but honestly I don’t even know any girls here that are RA’s, it’s majority men anyway. I thought gender inclusive housing was the floor not the room…

Oof. Rip I’m sorry :( Do they not have other areas RAs that can step in if needed? I know mine had ones per floor but if needed we can have someone from another floor come in for another opinion.

Yeah I’d get a different RA and explain that you are absolutely not comfortable with the amount of paper on the walls and that he’s not listening when you ask him to take it down.

The thing is since no actual rules are being broken all the ra can actually do is ask them to try to get along better, but they can’t force either to actually do anything. All OP can do right now is request a room change and hope it gets approved. If for no other reason than bc they were unaware the co-ed would be within the room itself and not just the hall, that would get a quicker approval

That is true, I’m just going off of how the dudebro RAs said he was only good if the roommate (op) is comfortable with it, which he’s clearly not. Maybe a different RA could get that point across but ultimately this is going to end in a room transfer.

I wouldn’t want to live with someone who’s pissed off at me bc I made them remove their rage bait wrapping paper anyway. The least stressful and safest route is to drop it and just leave. And again maybe delete this post bc I really don’t want op going to jail for committing a felony over wrapping paper

That’s true too. I just always aim for people to try every possible avenue to fix the situation before dipping completely.
