Now when I say this, I mean it’s okay to report your roommate for things that affect your life negatively. Friends/SO constantly over so you have no privacy? Report for guest policy violation. Blasting music at 1am? File a noise complaint.

and for alcohol in the living room/communal fridge where everyone gets charged for having it instead of just the owner. esp after they asked you to move it to your personal fridge

I just tattled on my roommate because she kept smoking indoors, losing her key, and has guests over weeks in a row (they stole my snacks before)

By all means have a conversation with your roommate first however I am saying it’s okay to “snitch” (read: escalate to a higher authority) when your roommate refuses to even compromise and continues to negatively affect your living situation. Not everyone can just move out and leave if they don’t like a situation.

If you continue to push boundaries maybe you should reassess yourself instead. Yes a conversation should be had, but there shouldn’t be a reason to have the conversation in the first place.

Sounds like we’ve found someone who’s been reported before…

Situations like this, when the perpetrator does not comply via verbal requests/open dialogue, need to be escalated. I don’t know what you expect to happen?

I think there’s a matter of degree to snitching. If snitching is your first instinct you suck, but some shit is just across the no snitching line.

Like, if you snitch before you have a conversation with them about it, you’re an asshole. But if you’ve talked to them about it, or it’s really just some heinous shit like my buddy whose dorm roommate was a frat pledge who would get forced to drink insane amounts of alcohol in hazing rituals and then splatter their whole room with vomit, then yeah there’s really no other choice than snitching that’s gonna solve the issue.

I lived in a three bedroom with two guys who didn’t smoke and on day one we all just agreed that they don’t have a problem with me doing it as long as I did it on the balcony, it’s really not that hard

They’d come out on the balcony with me while I was smoking and just not hit it themselves (unless finals week had just ended, then they’d both hit the bong lmao) and everything was cool. If I was stinking up the whole townhouse, they’d 100% have a right to be mad at me for it

I lived in the dorm with one of the two guys from the townhouse, and in an illegal state, day one I found an edible plug so I didn’t have to smoke to get high lmao like there are options

When I lived in the townhouse the plug was my next door neighbor and we shared a balcony since every balcony connected to two separate units, that shit was fire. Only plug I’ve ever been genuinely friends with. And he grew his own shit so he sold it to me dirt cheap too

He’d go on vacation and be like “can you feed and walk my dogs for a couple days? I’ll leave the key on the balcony and a sack on the counter for your time” like yeah dude I get to hang out with dogs and free weed out of it, and barely even have to leave my house? Of course I’ll watch the dogs.
