Is it normal (acceptable) for roommates parents to stay the night at an apartment while other roommates are there when the roommate whos parents are there stay somewhere else?

I’m a firm believer of “a host must stay with their guests” so no the parents can’t stay if the roommate that is their child is somewhere else. They can get a hotel room.

Honestly that’s uncomfortable. If the roommate was staying there with their parents, no it wouldn’t be weird.

It should be a discussion between both of you. Not something they just tell you, UNLESS that roomies parents are paying for it, then they need to discuss it with YOU

No that's not cool and if they handed over the keys to the parents (assuming they don't pay the lease, that is illegal)

It’s only weird because the host isn’t home. Host needs to be home whenever a guest is imo

normal but it’s only normal if they ask all roommates if it’s okay

honestly- yes. the roommate pays just as much as everyone else, they can truthfully have whoever they want over. it’s not their problem that your parents get a hotel room tbh

My issue with it is not that the parents are there, it’s that the roommate (their child) is not. I don’t think it’s okay to just leave your guests unattended like that, especially if you live with other people.

The issue isn’t them having whoever they want over. It’s them leaving the guest alone overnight in that apartment while they sleep elsewhere. That’s wrong and unsafe for everyone involved

Rat them out to the landlord then if it breaks the guest policy.

landlord doesn’t enforce any of their policies unfortunately

Ok drastic measures then: they don’t have a key, right? Should be really easy to pack up their stuff when they’re out, leave it outside (monitored of course), and lock them out of the apartment. Where is the roommate anyways?

Don’t know till you try 🤷🏻‍♀️ tell her no and if she tries anyway tell them you said no and they are not welcome. If they try to stay lock them out bc they are trespassing

She gives them her key and this has happened more than once but I just wanted opinions so I knew I was not in the wrong. Thank you.

^^just don’t mention that they’re your roommate’s parents, the cops might think it a civil case and not come.

From what OP has said, the roommate does this often and without the permission of the other roommates. They also said they’re “just as petty and rotten” as their child so it sounds like they are bothering the others. Based on context clues the roommate disrespects their roommates constantly and the parents are no better.
