If I can’t take the piece of furniture with me when I move out, why are you asking me to chip in for it when you buy it?

Because it’s a shared item. When my roommates and I decorated our living room (rug, pillows, blankets, wall decor) we all split the cost bc we all were using those things. Unless you don’t plan on using that furniture at all
