Funny you say that bc I was the clean roommate. I’m talking about people who don’t communicate that stuff to their roommates or even communicate that they expect certain things outside of their individual sides of the room cleaned then complain about it. Ntm people not explaining their different standards of cleaning. You can’t be an extreme clean freak then be mad that someone doesn’t do it to the level you do it, someone already talked about it on here but I’ll give my ex roommates for
example. She would tell our RA that I was dirty when I was consistently cleaning my side weekly, there was no smell, nothing out away from where it was ment to be, nothing on the floor, etc. and she still complained about it. In my second dorm I had the cleanest side and I TOLD them to just be mindful of the smell of the room and guess what? They changed it. It’s one thing to say it and be upset they didn’t do it and it’s another to never say anything (even if it should be obvious) then
complain as everyone’s supposed to know what you want all the time. Mind you this was also something I was doing earlier this year and needed to stop doing. Or being mad your roommate doesn’t thank you for things they didn’t ask you to do. Would it be nice? Yeah. Does it make them a bad person by itself? No bc they didn’t ask you to do it. And that goes back to the conversation aspect. And another example of something on the hot page actually, people being mad that their roommate eats out when
they have food at home. Doesn’t say the food is expired, doesn’t say it’s shared, nothing. Simply mad bc they chose to eat out. Not to mention I guarantee for a lot of the people on this sub the passive aggressiveness isn’t hidden from roommates which is why an attempt at conversation needs to happen bc you’re upset about something and now that passive aggressiveness is seeping out to others. But in one year I’ve had roommates worse than majority of these posts combined so what do I know
Don’t know why this specifically is upsetting people bc there was literally already a convo about it on here lol but another example is how every now and then you get a mental health post in here about how someone doesn’t pick up their half of the work and frankly it’s a 50/50 on if it’s downvoted or upvoted even tho no offense but your roommates shouldn’t have to pick up the slack for you if you never ask but it’s also not an uncommon sentiment here based on the phrasing of a post
Yes, this absolutely true and people never communicate it beforehand. Taking out the trash, doing your dishes, and emptying the dishwasher are basic tasks in a shared space as well as mopping/vacuuming, wiping counters, cleaning the bathroom weekly or biweekly, etc. But what isn't normal is expecting your roommates to deep clean daily or not allowing your roommates to own any stuff besides what you have bc they want all storage spaces for themselves and want everything to match the aesthetic
they had before asking you to live with them. it's like if you're so rigid, then live on your own. if you can't afford to live on your own then you can't have your cake and eat it too. you can't act entitled and expect everyone to follow your exact weird rules. this person was diagnosed with ocd and so am i but a different type. it's like say i have an ocd compulsion requiring me to touch the counters in order before going to bed. now let's say i asked all my roommates to do the exact same
