As stupid as this is it’s probably best that you don’t wear that again around her, in case she’s the type to spout this bs without context to others.

Sounds like a her problem. I wonder how in college with people having such small minds they have abilities to learn or fit information. If someone’s always looking through that kind of lens, that’s all they’re gonna see.

I get that approach but there’s always the risk of one asshole not taking that explanation or the lie spreading too fast for OP to correct everyone. Also I don’t think a face mask is worth a roommate flipping out and harassing me every time I use it.

That’s a stupid idea. It’s a charcoal face mask. There’s no need to stop something that isn’t harmful at all. That’s like saying just because someone thinks that when you wear yellow you look like piss that you should stop it all together. That’s so fucking stupid

Broooooo shut up. Stopping your own skincare is ridiculous. People are gonna say some bs no matter what you do in life. Why tf are you gonna bend to them rather than just ignore it

Hey I’m just saying that’s a fight I want to avoid. I’m not saying give it up completely just don’t let her see it again.

It’s called picking your battles. Frankly I don’t see this roommate ever understanding that a black face mask doesn’t equal black face so she doesn’t get to see the mask on anymore. Surely there’s a 10 minute window of OP’s day that they can wear it without her seeing it. It just sounds exhausting to have the “a face mask isn’t racist” fight every week or however many times OP uses it.

It’s just not that serious. Just because someone doesn’t understand doesn’t mean you need to stop living your own life. Weird asf for tryna have them conform to some stupid ideology

Unfortunately it is that fucking serious. All it takes is someone blasting bs for OP to get labeled racist. There’s a reason the term libel exists. No one’s saying OP needs to “conform”, I’m just suggesting they don’t wear that around the roommate anymore so they don’t have to a) deal with the argument and b) risk this getting blown further out of proportion. OP is stuck living with them for the foreseeable future and will definitely encounter more stupid shit because of it

Ok and part of being adults is learning what battles aren’t worth fighting and just not doing certain things with certain people. It’s really not worth the fight to have what will definitely result in a big blowup argument about a face mask that can be put on at a different time so she doesn’t see it.

Sorry if I think this shouldn’t be the reason their living situation becomes tense.
