I recently got on the waitlist to live in brand new student housing where I won’t have any roommates. My landlord has so many weird rules that she didn’t tell me about until I moved in and I’m just tired of having to accommodate her all the time.

We aren’t allowed to use paper towels in the house for any reason even though she keeps on buying them for the house. We aren’t allowed to use the oven to cook anything because she thinks it uses up too much fossil fuels. My roommate has 3 different recycling systems that take up half the kitchen, and if we don’t do things exactly right, she gets really mad

We also aren’t allowed to touch the central a/c we have in the house, even if it seems like her cats are overheating because also Fossil Fuels TM

She lets us use the stove but not the oven. It’s annoying because baking in my hobbies and the toaster oven is not the same if you try to make baked goods in there. It’s disappointing. This is the last time I’m renting from a mom n pop landlord

It seems more difficult to hold a small “mom and pop” independent landlord legally accountable compared to a corporate landlord

Lmao. I don’t think her car helps the fossil fuel issues either. 😭

I just mean that legally, it feels harder to be able to hold independent landlords legally accountable compared to corporate landlords, at least where I live.
