just start taking up space, u don't need to ask. if u need to put ur stuff on another shelf so it, they 100% don't care

i wouldn’t say they don’t care cause i’ve had some wild roommates who took up all the shelves and even put a lock on our fridge… (ain’t no one wanted her nasty food) so ik some are just odd lol but to OP i’d say take up the space u need and if they ask let them know you don’t think it’s evenly divided between everyone and just needed some room and if they get mad for whatever reason just document it and let ur RA know
