what do i do if housing insists on charging me for the garbage my roommate left behind even though i moved out earlier and clean up my side? i even showed proof but they said i will still be charged because no one is taking responsibility.

if both ur names are on the lease then unfortunately one of u needs to handle it snd the landlord doesnt rlly gaf who did it. If she left before any inspection, and still recieved her deposit you can probably bring it to small claims court tho

Tell them ofc “no one” is taking responsibility because they don’t want the charge themselves. That you showed proof you cleaned up your side and there should be proof you left and could not return earlier than them (turned in key, sign out sheet, texts). Re-read your housing contract very carefully and if you’re sure this is bogus gently ask if this is a matter a small claims judge needs to help you decide (this would involve them charging you and you fighting it, but it’s pretty easy)

ooh, well always take pictures of everything and maybe talk with your RA to see what your options are
