Hot take: this shouldn’t be considered crazy at all. The idea of nudity being inherently sexual and of sexuality being dirty is a judeo-christian value that has been applied unequally to women as a way of body policing. Nudity is normal in many cultures.
i was at a party this weekend and someone was dead ass just standing there naked - tits out and everything. but the crazy thing was that no one acted like it was weird at all like people were taking shots with her like nothing

nah i’m sorry that’s a crazy take, especially if it’s a big party where people don’t know each other like that. exposing yourself to others without consent is sexual assault, regardless of who’s doing it.

i totally agree. i was just saying that bras are really not necessary, except for stuff like sports where the flapping of the chest is painful. (i’m a DDD.)

I think the value of one’s body is to their own, but I also think protecting children’s innocence towards nudity is equally important, and where I’d draw the line.

I also want to say blaming this on anything to do with Christianity is inherently incorrect, it’s built upon social norms throughout multiple religions, to pinpoint it on one isn’t just disrespectful but incorrect. If you need examples look at the different branches of the Muslim religion which prioritize restricting the clothes women can wear. Don’t blame this on Christianity, which also started with Adam and Eve naked.

I practice Vajrayana Buddhism, many of our deities are depicted naked, both male and female. It's normal and most places are fine with it. Context is key with nudity.

our society is built on the standards that develop over time. This is a valid point but if that is your opinion then you would have to agree with its application to every societal norm we have. Cultures are inherently different, and the majority of Americans aren’t comfortable with public nudity, whereas other cultures are. Why is that a problem?

Exposing yourself to strangers implies that you took off your clothes as a deliberate act of revealing yourself. That’s not the same thing as being nude. Although hardly anyone actually does it, Boulder, CO is legally a topless city. The law states that you must leave your residence already topless, so taking off your top in public is still illegal. Does the nuance make sense or you need me to keep explaining?

That’s straight up not true. Christianity in the US is largely to blame for American views surrounding nudity. Let me remind you that Christianity is the most popular religion in this country. Nice deflection tho.

then the culture shifts, as it seems like is happening from the previous post. While the roots of public nudity being shameful have to do with the patriarchy, I’m not certain most Christian and non Christian would be comfortable being nude. Furthermore, a huge part of clothing is comfort and warmth, which doesn’t have roots in religion or the patriarchy. Sorry, I’m really not trying to be disagreeable, I think it’s an interesting debate to have

Being nude? What are you talking about? We’re talking about being around nudity. Feeling uncomfortable from being around nudity is not normal globally. If you want to cover up, then cover up. If you don’t, then don’t. The problem is not you being or not being nude. It’s about policing others.

Exactly. Context is so important and American culture teaches its citizens that its conventions are supreme and that its context is the only valid one. That's how the US managed so stay centered around lacking autonomy. American society operates on implicit consent, aka consent by participation. This is why nudity doesn't work in the US. There's no true consent. The problem was never nudity. It was institutions.
