how do yall get good at digital art???? i love drawing as a hobby but my digital pieces always look like fresh ass. i know there’s benefits to digital like layers but i can’t figure it out for shit 😭 traditional feels so much easier

I trace over my own paper art. I just take a picture of it and import it to the program then like experiment with stuff. I can't start fresh on digital

If your using an iPad get a paper texture screen protector—helps w the slipperiness of the screen I also started out by tracing my own doodles I did on paper It’s loads of practice—no one is amazing when they first start out

left is some old digital pieces i did years ago, right is some recent ones i started and didn’t finish bc i hated the way they looked. i started using pose references since the old ones. feel free to screenshot to get a better look

i don’t like the posing (even though i loved the references) and it just feels so… flat. like there’s no life in it. i’m not super proud of the top left but at least it feels better. bottom left i like but what’s shown of the body could be better. i think bottom right shows that kind of rendering doesn’t fit with my style

That's alright! I drew w ibisPaint for over 5 yrs on the tiniest phones (I just recently switched to a tablet) - it just takes practice, you won't get it right away (like any medium). I will say drawing traditionally and scanning it in works best for a smaller screen — that's what I use to do Just play around w all the functions and learn the program
